Prescription Required. Subject to independent medical assessment.
Oryx facilitates access to licensed doctors and compounding pharmacies.

Your treatment is given as a small injection just under the skin, using a pre-filled pen. Your doctor shows you how at your consultation, and everything you need comes with it. Most people find it far easier than they expected.

Your dose, how often you take it and how long you stay on it are set by your doctor and reviewed as you go. They are not the same for everyone, which is why they are decided after your assessment rather than before it.

A treatment plan starts at four weeks. Your doctor then reviews how you are getting on and can prescribe more if it is working and still right for you. Nothing repeats automatically.

  • A video consultation with a South African doctor registered with the HPCSA
  • A full medical history, taken properly
  • Blood tests where your doctor wants them, with a request form for your pathology lab
  • A prescribed treatment plan, if your doctor considers it appropriate for you
  • Everything you need to take it
  • Discreet delivery, anywhere in South Africa
  • Ongoing clinical review, and adjustments where they are needed

Every prescription medicine carries risk. What makes it safe or not is whether the right person gets the right thing at the right dose, and whether anyone is watching afterwards. That is what the assessment, the prescription and the review are for.

At your consultation your doctor will go through the specific risks of whatever they are considering for you, including side effects, anything it might interact with, and where the evidence is thinner than the internet suggests. Come prepared with a list of everything you take, including anything you bought over the counter and anything you take only occasionally.

If anything changes while you are on treatment, tell your doctor. Not the internet, and not a forum.

This treatment is prescription-only. It is not suitable for everyone, and it will not be prescribed to you unless a doctor has assessed you and judged it appropriate.

You will notice this page does not tell you the name of the medicine or what is in it. That is deliberate, and there are two reasons.

The first is the law. South African medicines law is strict about how prescription treatments may be described to the public, and stricter still for medicines a pharmacy prepares for one named patient. Where the law is not clear cut, we take the careful route rather than the clever one.

The second reason matters more. What a treatment might do for you depends on your history, your examination and your results, and read cold off a web page that is easy to misread and easy to talk yourself into. Nothing is being kept from you. Your doctor will go through all of it, including exactly what you are being prescribed and why, before you decide anything.

Treatment is one part of it. The rest is you.

Sleep, training, what you eat and drink, how you carry stress. Those are yours. Your doctor will be straight with you about that at the start rather than three months in.

How Oryx Works

1
Tell us about yourself
Complete a private online assessment. It takes about five minutes. If blood tests are needed, you get a request form for your nearest pathology lab at this point, so your results are ready for your consultation.
2
Consult With A Doctor
Book the next available slot through our booking system, in a couple of clicks. Your consultation is a video call with a South African doctor registered with the HPCSA. They take a full history, go through any results with you, and give you a straight answer about what you have come in with.
3
Build Your Plan
Your doctor shares your treatment plan with you straight after the consultation, not days later. You see exactly what it costs before you pay, and nothing is dispensed until you do.
4
Stay on track
Your treatment is prepared by a licensed South African pharmacy and delivered to your door, plain and unmarked, anywhere in South Africa. Orders usually arrive within two business days. Your doctor reviews you as you go, and adjusts what needs adjusting.

Every consultation with an HPCSA-registered doctor.

FAQs

It is a prescription treatment for metabolic health, prescribed only after a doctor has assessed you. Whether it is right for you, and whether something else would suit you better, is decided at your consultation.
No, and any doctor who tells you otherwise is not worth listening to. Treatment works alongside what you do, not instead of it, and your doctor will be straight with you about that at the start.
You do not have to know. Book an assessment and tell your doctor what has brought you in. Working out which programme fits you, or whether none of them does, is their job and it is what the consultation is for.
No. If treatment is not right for you, your doctor will tell you so and explain why. You still get the assessment and the answers you came for, and if your doctor does not put you on a treatment plan, we will see you again free of charge in six months to check whether anything has changed.
Only you and your doctor. Your consultation, your treatment plan and your deliveries are private, your information is confidential, and your packaging is plain and unmarked. Nothing on the outside says what is inside.
Cover varies between schemes and depends on the treatment, so some plans may contribute and others will not. Speak to your medical aid before you assume either way.
